Story:

This was a speculative project planned for an oceanfront neighborhood in Dana Point. The owners had several lots in the same neighborhood and hoped to build this home for a family member. They wanted to push the limits of contemporary architecture in Orange County.

We wanted to create a visually transparent lower level with views throughout the home. The house was elevated on the lot, so privacy on the main level was maintained. A key design component was a processional entry sequence leading people by a water feature and over a reflecting pond.

Much of the first level is transparent, so beautiful views and a connection to the landscape were intended to be key features of the home. Lush gardens and planters were designed all around the house.
